Square dancing in the LC Valley
Great fun for families, couples, and singles.
Dances are held at the Twin City Square and Round Dance Center located at 2130 5th Avenue in Clarkston, Washington. Drive up Scenic Way behind the Aquatic Center and follow Appleside Blvd south to 5th Ave. Turn right/west on 5th and proceed about half a block. The center is on the right.
We are proud to have one of the best dance halls in the inland northwest with a great floor, excellent acoustics and lighting, great air conditioning, and plenty of parking including Dry RV parking.
SQUARE DANCE 101
The square dance steps/moves are called "Calls", simply because the instructor (who is formally known as the "Caller") calls out the calls.
The caller is a person who prompts dance figures in such dances as line dance, square dance, and contra dance. The Caller prompts the dancers and the
dancers flow/move through several series of ever changing configurations to the beat & sound of music. Most of us have heard the names of common
square dance moves, such as do-si-do and allemande left. There are more than a hundred such moves that you will learn as you progress through our fun
dance classes.

Square dancers also "round" dance. Round dance includes most dance forms including 2-step, waltz, cha, rumba, bolero, foxtrot, jive, and more. It is called "round dancing" because couples proceed with their dance movements in a large circle around the dance floor. A "cuer" instructs the couples on what dance move to perform next to whatever music is being played. At mainstream dances "rounds" include 2-step and waltz. At Plus dances cha, rumba, foxtrot, and other forms are added. Rounds are interspersed between square dance "tips".
For those of you who would like to brush up on your round dancing we have a nice selection of rounds that you can play from this site on your computer. These rounds are mostly cued by Al Wolverton, and we are grateful for his contributions to square and round dancing. You can view a list of these rounds - ranging in level from II to IV here.
Mainstream + Plus dances at the Twirler hall are on the first and third Saturday of each month from October through May. Dances start at 6:30 with pre-rounds. These dances will alternate M/S tips and rounds with Plus tips and rounds.
Mixed level cued round dancing is Monday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00.. to resume in February
Plus lessons are on Tuesday evenings at 7:00.
Mainstream lessons are Sunday afternoons at 3:00.
Plus-level dances at the Twirler hall will occur monthly on Sunday afternoons to be announced.
Mountain Dewers dances are at Clearwater Valley Middle School. Mainstream club dances on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays from 5-7 pm. Mainstream lessons are every Saturday from 7:15 - 9 pm. Rounds are scheduled for Thursdays.
